Small Steps, Big Shifts

Foundation of Inner Relationship Focusing, Part 3

6-Week, Live Online Course via Zoom

Mastering Inner Relationship Focusing's Process & Sequence

You may be saying to yourself, "You mean there's more?"  Yes, there's more!

In this course, the entire IRF process and sequence comes together. You'll have the full framework and offering of invitations to help support you when Focusing with a partner and as you move through your day. Plus, you'll be eligible to participate in advanced Inner Relationship Focusing courses and retreats taught by Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin.

In Part 3, we'll be exploring the nuances of Focusing. You'll learn, in greater detail, how to be with feelings that feel vague and fuzzy (distant process) AND how to be with feelings that feel super close and intense (close process). Both processes need a different kind of relational experience.

You'll also learn how to ...

  • support your Focusing process even more by learning what to do if you feel stuck or bump up against what feels like a dead end

  • navigate inner conflicts with greater ease so each part feels heard without you getting pulled into the fray

  • experience the relief that comes when you can unmerge from the feeling AND the feeling about the feeling

  • meet all your thoughts and feelings with a greater, aha understanding that they're here for a good reason and trying to help you in some way

  • be with challenging feelings, especially grief and anger, when they don't feel like they're coming from a part of you

I've also structured this course so that our last class will be devoted to exploring more of what matters to you and how Focusing can help with that. I'll say more about that in our fifth class.

"[When Focusing] you feel better mainly because your body feels better, more free, released. The whole body is alive in a less constricted way. You have localized a problem that had previously made your whole body feel bad. An immediate freeing feeling lets you know there is a body shift. It is the body having moved toward a solution."

- Eugene Gendlin, founder of Focuing

After taking Part 3, you'll be eligible to participate in "Untangling," an advanced Focusing course developed and taught by Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin, co-creators of IRF.

Class Structure...

You guessed it! The structure for this course will be similar to Part One and Part Two. Each class will meet weekly for two hours over six weeks. Each class will involve a mix of teaching, brief reading assignments, Focusing exercises and Focusing partnerships. The time commitment for meeting outside of class with your partner will be about 30 minutes to an hour each week. You and your partner can determine what works best for you and your schedules.
