Cultivating Resilience in the Classroom

True learning demands taking risks, making mistakes, rebounding from those mistakes, trying again, thinking creatively, working collaboratively, and ongoing endurance. In short, learning is hard work!

Are you wanting to help your students remain engaged in the learning process, so they don't spin out, tune out or shut down when they bump up against stressful challenges or disappointing setbacks?

If so, join me for an experiential online workshop where I'll share with you a variety of developmentally appropriate exercises you can do with your students to help them develop a ready-to-go resilience from within so they can meet what comes their way with greater flexibility, steadiness and ease.

There will be TWO, 90-minute workshops. One will be geared towards those working with students in grades K - 6 and the other workshop will be geared towards those working with students in grades 6 - 12. A discount will be offered to those wanting to attend both workshops since there will be a slight overlap in content covered.

While this workshop is designed for teachers, learning specialists, administrators, tutors, evaluators, counselors and advisors, all adults are welcome to register!

Effort + Time + Patience = Growth!

In each workshop you can expect to learn ...

  • a variety of simple, effective and developmentally appropriate exercises to help students develop greater resilience, steadiness and ease

  • the science behind why these exercises work and how they strengthen executive functioning skills

  • how to offer students First Aid support when they are struggling with BIG emotions so they can find their footing before taking any next steps (Spoiler Alert: It's not saying, "Let it go" or taking calming breaths.)

  • how to help students meet stressful situations and challenging experiences without getting overwhelmed

  • how to help students develop greater self-awareness so they discover what best supports them and their learning process

  • how to create a classroom environment that enables students to exercise more of a growth mindset

These workshops are rooted in my experiences as a classroom teacher and my additional training as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and Certified Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF) Professional & Trainer. Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and stress disorders developed by Peter A. Levine. And, Inner Relationship Focusing is an experiential, body-oriented process of self-awareness and emotional healing developed by Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin.

Each workshop will include a mix of teaching, guided exercises and discussions. You'll also receive an audio recording of the workshop along with a copy of the presentation.

"We would call ourselves parents of a child who thrived in Lauren's classroom. She is what you might call a game-changer.  Her ideas are probably much more important than any facts a child will learn in a classroom. Our daughter - and subsequently the other two - is taking risks and rebounding from disappointments so fast that before you know it, she has found another success. Lauren can set the foundation for students to enjoy learning, and - most importantly - developing the skills to handle obstacles. The sooner we learn THAT, the sooner we learn ... more. We both wish we had a Lauren when we were growing up!!!"
